Honeybees and Mason Bees

Hi!

My question is: do I need to hang mason bee houses a certain distance away from my honeybee hive? I know the two bee types can coexist, however, I have a small backyard with one honeybee hive that’s adjacent to my garden shed and I have two Mason bee houses that I want to hang. The mason bee houses would only be a few feet away from the honeybee hive and about 6ft up (under the eave of the garden shed roof)… is that ok or will it impact my honeybee hive?

Hi Erin,

Both mason bees and honeybees will coexist just fine without any issues. Just make sure that there’s ample forage and water nearby, and in the case of mason bees, a mud source.
